Young people in Burkina Faso need help to get started.
Christine visited the village of Bango a few months ago. They have their new well now and are enjoying the clean water. But she was concerned because the young people there seem to have nothing to occupy themselves. How can she help these young people in Burkina Faso?
Here is the problem. The young people at Bango have not been able to go to school. So they do not know French which makes it difficult for them to find work. She asked them about it. Did they have any ideas? They asked if she would be able to provide some money to start small businesses. Perhaps they could buy small animals, fatten them and sell them but Christine didn’t know where she would be able to find money to do that.
Can we provide help for young people in Burkina Faso?
As she wondered about it, she talked to the pastor about it. What about providing training in practical skills? They would need tools – gardening tools, carpentry tools, mechanics tools and sewing machines but the pastor agreed with the idea. She mentioned this to Myra’s Wells. We already had a container planned and Eddie had found two minibuses. One of them would be filled with boxes of children’s Bible Lessons. But there would be room for many other things in the other one.
A few phone calls later and he had arrangements made. A charity called TWAM (Tools With A Mission) had just what was needed – and more, so Eddie made a trip to Ipswich in a hired van. He returned with the van filled to overflowing with everything that we needed. So we spent the evening moving countless heavy boxes from the van and stacking them in the minibus. But at the end of the evening, the minibus was full of tools and sewing machines. Our arms ached but we were happy that we were able to help the young people in Burkina Faso and Eddie drove the van into the container.
What next?
In the next couple of weeks, we will send the container on its way to Burkina Faso. Christine has talked to people who she knows. They are the right contacts to help the people in the Bogande area to built the training centre. And then some of the young people in Burkina Faso will receive their training. This is the first step to helping them be able to earn a living.
The container and its contents are all financed completely separately from the financing of the wells that Myra’s Wells drills. We continue to guarantee that all donations we receive will be used to provide more clean water in this needy country. Click here to see how to help us.
