The latest ones were drilled at the end of April and early May 2017.
We are pleased to be able to report that Myra’s Wells has now drilled 86 wells. In the last week of April we completed 3 wells and a week later, we completed another 1. As yet, we do not have many pictures to show you, but we hope that will be some more soon. So we are now aiming for 100 wells providing clean water in Burkina Faso within the next year.
God’s thoughts are not our thoughts!
11 years ago, there were no thoughts of targets! Eddie Martin saw the need in this arid, dry, poverty stricken country. He came home with the intention of providing 1 well. There was no thought of starting a charity. But God had other thoughts. After a low key appeal for funds to finance the 1 well, funds continued to arrive. After 5 years, he arranged for, and drilled, 11 wells.
But then, it really took off. Myra’s Wells became a registered charity and 6 years later, there are now 86 wells. They are all still producing pure clean water. God has really blessed. Donations arrive from individuals and churches. Many times, we don’t know how they have heard about the work. And suddenly, we find ourselves aiming for 100 wells providing clean water in Burkina Faso.
So these are the most recent wells
Here are the basic facts of the latest 4 wells:
Kondissi – a village in the Kaya district. Previously, the people had to choose between and open well (which dried up) or the dirty river water.
Basanwara – a village in the Sapuy district with 2250 people. Previously, they had a 3 km walk to the nearest existing well. Or they could use the dirty open well – until it dried up. We have a ‘before’ pictures of this village.
Vara – a village in the Sissili district. 3000 people live here. Previously, their walk to the nearest well was 4km.
Gabou – a village in the Kaya district. 2200 people live here. There was a pump by a school, but the people were not allowed to use it.
When we obtain some photos, we will write up individual stories over the next weeks.
