Laro Farm is about 200 miles west from the capital – towards Cote D’Ivoire. This is a village near a farm set up by the Village of Hope (see no 5).
The farm itself takes water from a year round river but this water is not in any way suitable for drinking. The river forms the border between Burkina and Ghana. It is so full in the rainy season that they are able to grow rice. Most of the year the water is very low and needs pumping to get it to the farm. They use a basic system of irrigation ditches to channel the water.
Now that the village has drinking water the farm can grow as it can support more workers. Many of the villagers have learnt from the farm and vegetable patches are appearing all over the village. The overall quality of life in the village is much improved.
