Stories of some early wells that Myra’s Wells drilled in Burkina Faso
In the dropdown menu above, you will find stories of some early wells that Myra’s Wells drilled in Burkina Faso. (hover over “First Wells”.) Since then, with God’s good help, we have been able to drill many more. As of May 2017, the number stood at 86. It is difficult to keep the stories up to date – what a lovely problem to have. But you can find the full list on the “Wells List and Stories” menu item.
Keeping you up to date
We post news items as information and pictures arrive from Africa. Christine’s team visit proposed sites before arranging any drilling. This is necessary to ascertain the need for a well and to check the overall location in the village. But often, the sites are very remote. It can mean long journeys on roads which are poor, followed by several hours on dirt “roads”. So we do not always have news quickly from the new wells.
With God’s help, we are looking forward to drilling more in the near future. Then we might be able to change this page from “stories of some early wells that Myra’s Wells drilled in Burkina Faso” to “stories of more wells that Myra’s Wells drilled in Burkina Faso”.
How much the wells are appreciated
There is a well dedication service in every village. The Burkina team all go in a minibus and take food and gifts from the container for the villagers. There is much singing. A pastor will expain that we do this work to show God’s love to them. This celebration can sometimes go on all day and night. The miracle of water is lost on us with our taps and toilets but it is a great day for a village when they get a well!
Named wells dedicated to loved ones
Many of the wells are now “named” wells. These are wells that individuals or families have paid for. Many are in memory of a much loved family member who has passed away. Some are in celebration of a wedding. The Myra’s Wells trustees pay for the plaques so that all the donation is used to drill the wells. With the current exchange rates, each well costs approximately £5000. Christine is very skilled at negotiating contracts so that is much less than some organisations are paying for the similar wells.
You can donate to us and have a well dedicated to you or your loved ones!
